Mukund and KL Rahul became India's eight opening pair in 15 tests since the tour of West Indies in July 2016, Mukund, who played last test match in 2011, didn't last long as he was out lbw by Mitchell Starc (1-39) in the third over of the inning.
After Mukund dismissal Cheteshwar Pujara came to the crease, but he didn't survive for long, and dismissed for 17 runs at the stroke of lunch on Saturday as India reached 79-2. Pujara was caught at short leg off Lyon minutes before the break after the duo put on 61-runs for the second wicket. Their 50-runs partnership came with 126 balls.
In the second session, India lost wicket of Kohli (12) quickly, as he trapped lbw by Lyon in the 34th over. The pitched started taking turn and both batsmen were finding it difficult to play in the middle.
Rahul survived when he was dropped in the 44th over at leg slip off
Lyon. But Lyon had Rahane stumped in the 48th over. The batsman jumped
out of his crease, missed the line of delivery and failed to make it
back in time even as keeper Matthew Wade slipped.
Karun Nair (26) then added 38 runs with Rahul and pushed India past the 150 mark.
India reached 168-5 at tea as Lyon bowled an unchanged 16-over spell and
took 3-40. The hosts then lasted less than 13 overs into the evening
session.
